Boston Area Membership Meeting

Homes for Families’ Boston Area Membership Meeting is an opportunity for both parents and shelter/service providers to sit at the same table and discuss the current issues affecting family homelessness in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the Greater Boston region. This meeting offers an atmosphere in which attendees can hear about current events, public policy and advocacy and learn from each other by discussing how these impact the lives of families and the work of shelter/service providers.

This meeting takes place on the second Wednesday of every month.


Housing and Homeless Benefits Meeting (Worcester Area Membership Meeting)

Homes for Families’ Worcester Area Membership Meeting is an opportunity for shelter/service providers to discuss issues affecting individual and family homelessness along with public policy and advocacy. This event, which is held in collaboration with the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless and The Central Massachusetts Housing Alliance, examines issues affecting homelessness in Central Massachusetts and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

This meeting takes place on the third Wednesday of every month.


Public Policy Committee Meeting

Homes for Families’ public policy committee guides the organization’s advocacy efforts and the formulation of its budget and legislative priorities. This group meets once a month. For more information, contact Libby Hayes at 617-227-4188 or lhayes@homesforfamilies.org.

Trainings

Homes for Families hosts a variety of trainings for shelter and service providers examining issues related to public policy, advocacy and consumer engagement. These events are held in several regions of the state, so check with HFF for an updated schedule.

Introduction to Public Policy and Advocacy

This training will cover the following topics:

  • Public policy and how it affects you
  • The creation of the state budget and laws
  • Public policy advocacy
  • Working with legislators


Promoting the Voice of Consumers

  • How to engage and support your clients
  • Methods for ensuring consumer voices are heard
  • How to connect your clients to advocacy opportunities

Communicating Your Message

This training will cover the following topics:

  • How to create an advocacy process in your organization
  • How to put together a legislative breakfast
  • How to communicate with the media
  • Public speaking
